They are easy to do and should be done by every families member<\/p>\n<p><strong>Doors and Locks<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use a solid core or metal door for all entrance points<\/li>\n<li>Use a quality, heavy-duty, deadbolt lock with a one-inch throw bolt<\/li>\n<li>Use a quality, heavy-duty, knob-in-lock set with a dead-latch mechanism<\/li>\n<li>Use a heavy-duty, four-screw, strike plate with 3-inch screws to penetrate into a wooden door frame<\/li>\n<li>Use a wide-angle 160&deg; peephole mounted no higher than 58 inches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sliding Glass Patio Doors<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use a secondary blocking device on all sliding glass doors<\/li>\n<li>Keep the latch mechanism in good condition and properly adjusted<\/li>\n<li>Keep sliding door rollers in good condition and properly adjusted<\/li>\n<li>Use anti-lift devices such as through-the-door pins or upper track screws<\/li>\n<li>Use highly visible alarm decals, beware of dog decals or block watch decal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Windows<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Secure all accessible windows with secondary blocking devices<\/li>\n<li>Block accessible windows open no more than 6 inches for ventilation<\/li>\n<li>Make sure someone cannot reach through an open window and unlock the door<\/li>\n<li>Make sure someone cannot reach inside the window and remove the blocking device<\/li>\n<li>Use anti-lift devices to prevent window from being lifted out<\/li>\n<li>Use crime prevention or alarm decals on ground accessible windows<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Be a Good Neighbor<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get to know all your adjacent neighbors<\/li>\n<li>Invite them into your home and establish trust<\/li>\n<li>Agree to watch out for each other&rsquo;s home<\/li>\n<li>Do small tasks for each other to improve territoriality<\/li>\n<li>While on vacation &#8211; pick up newspapers, and flyers<\/li>\n<li>Offer to occasionally park your car in their driveway<\/li>\n<li>Return the favor and communicate often<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Lighting<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use interior light timers to establish a pattern of occupancy<\/li>\n<li>Exterior lighting should allow 100- feet of visibility<\/li>\n<li>Use good lighting along the pathway and at your door<\/li>\n<li>Use light timers or photo-cells to turn on\/off lights automatically<\/li>\n<li>Use infra-red motion sensor lights on the rear of single family homes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.miracle.com.my\/?page_id=8\" target=\"_parent\">Home Security Alarm<\/a> Systems<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alarm systems are effective deterrents with visible signage<\/li>\n<li>Alarm systems to be properly installed, programmed, and maintained<\/li>\n<li>Alarm systems need to have an audible horn or bell to be effective<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your alarm response call list is up to date<\/li>\n<li>Instruct your neighbor how to respond to an alarm bell<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Home Safes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use the safe everyday so it becomes routine<\/li>\n<li>Protect the safe code and change it occasionally<\/li>\n<li>Install it away from the master bedroom or closet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are a few ways you can do to protect your home.
